As part of the Emirates Lawyers Association’s participation in the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2026, a dialogue session was held today under the title “The Book No Human Wrote… Who Owns the Idea When the Machine Writes?” The session explored one of the most prominent legal and intellectual issues emerging from the rapid development of artificial intelligence technologies.
 

The session was moderated by Lawyer / Adel Abdulkadir Fakher, Director of the Media Center and Board Member of the Emirates Lawyers Association, who hosted Lawyer Dr. Abdullah Yousuf Al Nasser, Head of the Association’s Artificial Intelligence Team, for a discussion addressing the legal and intellectual dimensions associated with content generated by artificial intelligence systems.
 

The session examined key questions surrounding intellectual property in the age of artificial intelligence, including who owns an idea or a work when a machine plays a role in the creative and production process. It also addressed the legal challenges arising from works and content created using artificial intelligence tools.
 

The discussion further explored the importance of reconsidering certain traditional legal concepts relating to authorship, creative works, and originality, particularly as technologies emerge that are capable of generating texts, images, music, and other forms of content. These developments raise important questions concerning copyright, legal liability, and the protection of intellectual property rights.
 

The session highlighted the importance of specialized legal dialogue in keeping pace with rapid technological transformation and the need to enhance awareness of the legal challenges posed by artificial intelligence applications. Such dialogue can contribute to the development of legislative and regulatory frameworks capable of addressing emerging technological and intellectual developments.
